# Overview
**FINAL FANTASY X** is a timeless masterpiece. The storytelling, characters, and music craft a world so hauntingly beautiful that most never want to leave it. An all time great, this game redefined what JRPGs could be at the turn of the millennium, and garnered mass critical and commercial success. Personally, I'd list this as one of the greatest games of all time, and a must play for anyone and everyone I know.
**FINAL FANTASY X-2** is much more divisive. As the first game born from the merger of Square and Enix, X-2 was decisively a "financially safe" move. Recycling the world and assets of X allowed for X-2 to be delivered much more rapidly than otherwise would have been possible, but a massive shift in tonality left this game's audience split. I think it's still worth it to play, though! Just don't expect more of the same, or you will face disappointment, for sure.
# Modding
FINAL FANTASY X + X-2 are almost perfect remasters and PC ports, but there are a few issues that can be addressed with **"Untitled" Project X**, the definitive fan mod for the games.
Key features of this mod include:
- Ability to skip cutscenes
- Ability to toggle between English or Japanese voice acting
- Ability to remap buttons
- Ability to change controller glyphs
- Ability to toggle experience sharing
- Ability to toggle permanent Sensor ability
... and more!
## Installing **"Untitled" Project X** (Linux)
> [!NOTE]
> All of the steps in this section assume that they are performed on a **Steam Deck** or other **Linux device running KDE** that you intend to play modded Final Fantasy X + X-2: HD Remaster on. This guide also assumes that you have a copy of **Final Fantasy X + X-2: HD Remaster on Steam**. All steps are to be performed in **Desktop Mode**.
> [!WARNING]
> If you have previously modded FINAL FANTASY X + X-2: HD Remaster on this device and wish to remove the mods, delete `/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/FINAL FANTASY FFX&FFX-2 HD Remaster` in Dolphin, since deleting the game from Steam will leave behind the mod files, if they previously existed. Also, you may have to delete the Wine prefix for the game using Protontricks.
- Set the compatibility layer to [GE-Proton9-27](https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton9-27).
- Install the game.
- Launch into the launcher once from **game mode**.
- Launch into FFX once from **game mode**.
- Launch into FFX-2 once **game mode**.
- Using **Protontricks**, set the Windows version to Windows 10 for the game.
- Use the latest [FFX-X2_LAUNCHER](https://github.com/xan105/FFX-X2_LAUNCHER)
- Use the latest ["Untitled" Project X (UnX)](https://github.com/Kaldaien/UnX) instead of the one bundled with the launcher.
- Launch into the launcher once from **desktop mode**.
- Set the window mode to "windowed" and the resolution to "800x600".
- Launch into FFX once from **desktop mode**. Set the update interval to "never".
- Launch into FFX-2 once from **desktop mode**. Set the update interval to "never".
- Update the `dxgi.ini` file. Under `[SpecialK.System]`, set `CEGUI=true` to enable the overlay. Setting the update interval to "never" in the previous step overrode the default "true" for this setting to "false" as the new default, meaning that the hotkeys to access the overlay won't work unless we make this change back to "true".
- Launch into the launcher from **game mode**.
- Set the window mode to "fullscreen" and the resolution to "1280x800".
- Open SpecialK overlay with ctrl shift backspace.
- Under Steam Enhancements, Achievements, Enhanced Popup, set Draw Mode to Disabled.
# Guides
## FINAL FANTASY X
FINAL FANTASY X is straightforward to finish, but very lengthy to complete. Using a guide is recommended if you want to see beyond the end of the main story. The below guide will help you achieve everything there is to achieve in this game.

## FINAL FANTASY X-2
FINAL FANTASY X-2 is a notoriously difficult game to 100% complete, especially in a single playthrough. Using a guide is **mandatory** if you want to achieve it, and there's no way around it. Additionally, it may require multiple playthroughs, if you want to achieve everything there is to achieve in this game.
There are 3 metrics that are reported by the game after the credits roll:
- Story Completed
- Creature Completed
- Times Played
If you want to truly achieve everything there is to achieve in this game, you'll need to get both completion percentages to 100%, and play the game 3 times.
### New Game
The first playthrough is the most stressful, believe it or not, due to the overwhelmingly stringent requirements to achieve 100% in a single playthrough. The below guide will help you achieve that, as well as earn every achievement in the game, too.

>
> If you want to get 100% in the base game, and every achievement, this guide is all you'll need.
### New Game+
The second playthrough is all about the Creature Creator. This playthrough is less stringent, but still has multiple instances where you may permanently miss something, so be cautious. The below guide will help you achieve 100% Creature Completed in a single New Game+ playthrough.

> This guide for FINAL FANTASY X-2 is everything you need to get 100% completion for the Creature Creator content, which is a completely optional side mode that has no bearing on the main game's completion percentage.
>
> If you want to go the extra mile, and get 100% in the Creature Creator side mode, as well, this guide is all you need.
> [!TIP] New Game+ Tips
>
> - The moment you reach the airship for the first time, stop using YRP in battle.
> - First, use Chocobo, Tonberry, Red Elemental as your party.
> - Then use Machina Ranger, Machina Scout, Machina Leader as your party.
> - Finally, use Almighty Shinra, Mushroom Cloud as your party.
> - Make sure to do all the Clasko missions again to unlock Chocobo Farm again!
> - Side with the Youth League again.
> - Defeat *Major Numerous* in the *Farplane Cup*.
> - View the secret *Shinra Ending* as a reward for achieving 100% of Monster Capturing.
### New Game++
The third and final playthough is even more optional than the second. You've already achieved 100% in both Story Completed and Creature Completed, so what more is there to do?
1. Obtain the *Flash of Steel* or *Disaster in Bloom* Garment Grid, whichever you did not obtain yet, by doing the publicity campaign for the other Calm Lands Agency you didn't support the first time around.
2. Obtain the *Shining Mirror* Garment Grid, by defeating Elma at Mushroom Rock Road in Chapter 2, after siding with New Yevon.
3. Obtain the *Blood of the Beast* Garment Grid, by re-visiting the Bevelle Underground, making it all the way to the end, and telling Pace "Go for it" when you find him there. Must be done in Chapter 3, after siding with New Yevon, before doing either the Besaid or Killika Hotspots.
Since you'll have the Creature Creator completed already, feel free to play the story using your newly unlocked secret "monsters", too! Personally, I also like to defeat *Almighty Shinra* and *Major Numerous* again using Yuna, Rikku, & Paine, instead of monsters this time around, as a true "final boss" challenge.
